Section 1 Growing up the different cultrual experineces were very few and most of the time when various cultures were implemented in the classroom it was done in Music class from what I can remember. There were times where hispanic culture was celebrated through music and dance. We practiced various dances as a class and it was performed. Children would dress up in traditional clothes as well. In the classroom I don't remember much incoporated into the classroom or lessons. At the time when we were taught the dances in music, I dont remember it being a very positive experince due to the demeanor of the educator. I can remember alot of the students, including myself not really understanding songs and movements to the dances. The teacher had very little patience and looking back, teaching was probably not her calling.  Looking to where my children are currently, I feel that culture is more greatly appreciated now. During the month of October hispanic heritage was greatly celebrated

The most memorable reading moment in ELAR was fourth grade. At the school that I attended it was always an unsaid thing that if you got Mr. Jones fourth grade you would be in the “fun class”. I got into his class and I don't remember many details but he always made learning fun and the classmates I had, we were always enjoying the class and all the activities. The one particular assignment that I feel I remember the most was where we had to get a cereal box and decorate it ourselves into a cereal that you would sell in the grocery store. He walked us through every part on what or how a cereal sells. This is where I probably learned how to draw box letters for the first time. He would always emphasize how important the name of the cereal was represented on the box.  I don't remember the cereal title I made, but his class made a big impact on me and how creative I am in life now. Tips that I would have for myself and other future teachers… I think that with most writing lessons,

The Physical Literary Environment

When I think back to the various literacy environments as I grew up, I feel like most of the environments that I remember or enjoyed were in my elementary years. They were places to sit while you read and they were fun spaces. As I progressed through school, I feel that there was less and less effort by the teachers to enjoy reading which I the began to loose interest. One of my favorite classroom settings is actually my son's first grade teacher he had last year, I will call he Mrs. N. When you entered Mrs. N's room, she had amazing flexible seating arrangements. When it was time to read, kids could sit on rocking chairs, sit on this top bunk like platform(you had to earn it), or on special days she would turn out all the lights and the kids would have flash lights and they would sit under their desks, wrapped in blankets. My son struggled in reading but after this class and how she incorporated different ways to read, he is excelling a year later. If you make situations fun,

Hey everyone, Welcome to my RDG 370 Literacy Blog. This is my very first blog. I enjoy reading different blogs, so creating one of my own and sharing my personal experiences through this course should be interesting. Creating a blog in literacy education is a little intimidating but  I do like challenges because I feel that the outcome from tough situations out of your comfort zone brings growth to you in areas. I will be entering my internship and residency this fall. I am really looking forward to being in the classroom and getting hands-on experience. I feel like it's taken me a while to get to this point in my academic studies so being at the finish line, I could not be more excited. During my early field experience I decided to observe in prekindergarten because I felt driven to have the younger crowd of students. Through these last semesters, I have found myself undecided on the grade I want to direct my focus. The subject that I have always been drawn to is Science. I love o
